Wishes

How many times do you say I wish? We tend to get in situations that make us wish for a difference or for something to change about our situation. Do you find yourself saying, “I wish I could hit the lottery”, “I wish I could change what I said” or “I wish I could change the situation”?

The reality of wishes is that they help us cope with the situation we are currently in. Wishes can help us deal with what we are going through even if only for a few seconds. They provide a sense of hope for things to change in that very moment. The difficulty is most times we stop at the thinking or speaking of our wishes and never give them any more momentum. We don’t explore further on how to make our wishes come true. Whether you believe it or not there is power in our words. Our words not only change how we think about things but also how we feel about things. One corporation that knows just that is Disney.

Disney has made wishing a part of what they do, look at some lyrics to their songs:

When you wish, upon a star Makes no difference who you are Anything your heart desires will come...to...you.

Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight. I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish, I wish tonight. We'll make a wish, and do as dreamers do, and all our wishes, will come true.

Here are some lines the Disney characters say about wishes:

[CINDERELLA] I wish...I could go to the ball

[SNOW WHITE] I'm wishing...someday, my prince will come

[ARIEL] Ha-ha. I wish...Ohh...I wish I could be part of that world

The most important part of wishing is what the Disney character Jiminy says about wishing:

“You know, any wish is possible. All it takes is a little courage, to set it free”

Sounds simple, right? Really the beginning of making your wish come true is simple and yes it takes courage to set it free. It also takes your willingness to do the work to make it happen. What do you wish for? How can you make it happen? It begins with your personal growth, knowing who you are, where you are going and developing the skills to make your wish come true.
